Will May Learns How to Develop Software

Welcome, dear visitor!

This is my website, where I publish articles about the software projects I’ve been working on and host related downloadable content. From atop this digital parapet I am able to blithely spout my waffle into the infinite void that is cyberspace, proudly undeterred by the recipient silence. But, since you’re already here, why not read some of my waffle? Some of it’s quite good!

Who am I?

My name’s Will May, and I’m an English software developer based in Sheffield, where I live with my beautiful wife Kate and our two cats, the ostentatiously monikered Lysander and Sebastian. I’m an avid programmer, long-time vegetarian, football stats nerd, Radiohead devotee, Spanish language learner, keen badminton player, God-awful pianist, PADI-certified scuba diver (with a fear of open water), former care worker and teaching assistant, co-founder of a short-lived app start-up, and ex-expat (Singapore!), among other things. I tend to fall short of excellence and I’ve had my fair share of failures and setbacks over the years, but I like to think I get the important things in life right.

Why do I have a website? What’s the bloody point?

Well, I used to be a Web Developer, and it’s always a tad suspicious when a Web Developer doesn’t have their own website, isn’t it? But really, I like the fact that this website provides me a platform to get my thoughts down in “print”, and have them persisted forevermore on the internet. If people read what I’m writing, that’s a bonus!

Have I done anything cool lately?

Glad I asked! Why not check out this article on the process of migrating this website from Bluehost to AWS, or this one about a new piece of language learning software I created called LexiDeck, or this one on how ChatGPT’s new GPTs feature can help you develop software?
